Due on-line Mon. Feb. 19, 2018
Assignment
Read chapters 1 and 2 in the Alice text book. Answer the following questions -
type or neatly write your answers.
Repeat the questions being answered, then answer the questions.
- Install the Alice software. You can use the CD that comes with your
course textbook (the book comes with a Windows CD and a Mac CD). For the
most current version,
download it (Alice version 2) from www.alice.org/get-alice/.
Scroll down to "Alice 2" and click "Get It". Look for "English Gallery
Complete" and select the version of Alice for your computer (Mac,
Windows, or Linux).
If you unsure of which method you prefer (CD vs download from the Alice
web site), I would recommend just using the Alice web site. The CD may
just have version 2.2, but that is OK for the purposes of this class.
We'll work together this semester to explore any differences between the
two versions. Include a sentence indicating any challenges (or
hopefully, success)
with the installation. (8 pts)
- Load and run one of the example programs. Which one did you pick? What did it do? (2 pts)
- What is a "billboard" in Alice? (2 pts)
- What four steps are required to create a computer program? (2 pts)
- Explain what statement nesting is in programming. (2 pts)
- Describe how program comments are useful. (2 pts)
- What happens when you say that one object is a vehicle for another? (2 pts)
Type your name, "CS 110 Project1: Alice & Objects", and the date completed --- at the top of your paper and upload
into Blackboard Learn by the due date. Remember the filenaming convention of Lastname_Firstname_Proj1.docx or
something similar.
